What We Know So Far About Tourniquet's Upcoming Album
So here was a fun idea I had recently, see if I could come up with an entire article of everything we know about Tourniquet’s upcoming release. Including speculation on a lot of it as right now not much is known.
Who’s in the band?
So as many of you know, the band has primarily been a weird lineup. Live musicians, studio musicians and a revolving door of different musicians. The band began in 1989, with the lineup of Guy Ritter (vocals), Gary Lenaire (guitars) and Ted Kirkpatrick (drums). Shortly after, in 1990, the band hired Erik Mendez (guitars) and Victor Macias (bass). With this lineup, many considered them the original and legendary lineup. Ritter and Mendez left in 1993, with Macias and Lenaire leaving in 1996. Guitarist Aaron Guerra took over in 1994, while Vocalist Luke Easter joined a year prior, following Ritter’s departure. In 2015, Easter left the band, leaving them vocalistless. In 2017, the band had three live members - Vocalist Jason Robinson (Wrath of Typhon), Guitarist Jamey Henn, and Bassist Andy Robbins (ex-Holy Soldier) - which seem to have no involvement with the album. From what I can see, it’s definitely Kirkpatrick on drums and Guerra on guitars and bass. On vocals, we have Deen Castronovo on vocals. In case you have no idea who Castronovo is, he’s played drums (Journey) and sang for several bands and musicians, including Marty Friedman, Steve Vai and Ozzy Osbourne. So to sum up, Ted Kirkpatrick on drums, Aaron Guerra on guitars/bass, and Deen Castronovo on vocals.
How long is the album?
The track listing has not been revealed, nor has the title. But the information I have, the self titled track of the album is 4:17 minutes long, which speaks volumes. Most likely, the album is going be one of those progressive thrash metal albums and be 50-60 minutes long, potentially 70 minutes. Previous albums have had tracks ranging between 4 minutes to 8 minutes. That’s all I have on this end.
When’s the album coming out?
The band has still not revealed an official release date but the band has stated Spring 2018. Since March 21st was the beginning of Spring and June 21st is the end of Spring and the official beginning of Summer, the album will (hopefully) be released between those two dates. My guess is May.
Who’s on production?
So for the most part, the album looks self produced. In a picture someone took, it appears that Kirkpatrick and Guerra were self recording the guitars on the album, and most likely bass as well. With in mind, it can be assumed that Kirkpatrick did his own drums as well, as I believe he has a studio where he lives. On Castronovo’s side of things, Castronovo recorded his vocals with Black Diamond Studios. The engineers there are Matt Jefferson and Andrew Sharle.
We do not know much more than this. So around April or May, the album should be out. Unfortunately, we don’t know the title of the album or even how many tracks are on it. My guess is, however, this going to be slightly average as far as track numbers. So between 11-12 tracks. There’s only one thing that comes close to potential artwork. Lineup is two official members and three additional live members.
The band has been teasing and working on this album since way back in 2016 and now it's finally coming to fruition. I'm excited for it, even though I'm not a big fan of the band, or rather the more recent material. I hope it turns out just like everyone wants it too and I hope it turns out heavy and thrashy.
