Review: TIMŌRĀTUS - 7 Deadly Sins
Release date: February 1, 2018
Record label: Independent
My good friends in TIMŌRĀTUS released a new EP recently, back in February. The band has been signed to Vision of God Records’ subsidiary, Christian Metal Underground. I’m not sure if they still are, but this EP rips. Period.
“Pride” is the first track on the EP, that is only a minute and 7 seconds. The guitars in the intro are heavy as all get out. I cannot stress that enough. The vocals are incredibly heavy, very brutal. I believe that Courtney Napier did a lot of the vocals throughout the EP.
“Lust” is 43 seconds long. While not as awesome as “Pride” in my opinion, it certainly still does not hold back on the brutality. Still amazing and kicks major butt. BRUTAL.
“Greed” is the longest track on the EP, with a total run time of one minute and 21 seconds. Slow, grindy, sludgy metal. The vocals and guitars are so gritty and the drums are fantastic. The bass is practically all there is in this song. Without it, the track would still be brutal. That’s how brutal this song is. Especially when the guitars start playing left speaker-right speaker.
“Gluttony” is 53 seconds. The track grinds like you would not believe. Heck, it grinds like I wouldn’t believe. This stuff is the best grindcore style album I’ve ever heard.
“Envy” is five seconds longer than the last track (for those who can’t math that’s 58 seconds). The track is fast and crazy. This one has some of David’s vocals, which is pretty cool (they’re the lower ones). The track has some of the best drums (I’m guessing programmed) and definitely the best guitars. I love these newer one man and two man bands - TIMŌRĀTUS, Children of Wrath, Symphony of Heaven, Ascending King, and Flayed Alive - more and more every time I check em out.
“Wrath” is one minute and 7 seconds. The track has the thickest bass line I’ve ever heard. Well, maybe behind Death Therapy. But seriously. That bass though. The drums are pretty amazing too, as are David’s vocals this time around.
“Sloth” is very deathcore with 51 seconds. Seriously, the track is slow and brutal. Breakdowns for days. I also love the muffled guitars and vocals. AWESOME.
Overall: This is the best EP I’ve heard. Definitely a new favorite for me. Free download available on Bandcamp. If you don’t go get it, you clearly are on the wrong site. Go get this thing now!
