Christian Metal History - #3 - Abated Mass of Flesh
Abated Mass of Flesh started in 2011 as a solo project, formed by Zach Plunkett. Plunkett recorded an EP for the band, titled Moth and Rust in the Temple of Putridity the same year. In 2012, Plunkett hired his brother, Matt, to join the band on vocals. By the end of 2012, the brothers had doubled their ranks, adding in Logan Hayworth and Kade Dodson on bass and drums. The next year saw the release of two EPs. Brutal Death and The Anatomy of Impurity, followed by another EP and their debut full length, Deathcrusher and The Omen King in 2014, via Rottweiler Records. Hayworth departed, followed soon after by Dodson. This led to a whole new lineup of Matt, Zach, O' Majestic Winter's Max Tubville (Bass), and brothers Riley (Drums) and Thomas Wingate (Rhythm Guitars) before the end of 2014. The band released a single the same year titled "Violence", which has become one of the band's hit songs. 2015 saw the release of Abhorrent Postmortal Vicissity. Before this last release, the band had dropped off of Rottweiler Records. In 2016, the band released their debut live EP, titled Descending Upon the Deceased. Two singles came out at the beginning of 2017, "Infectious Womb" and "Shadowed By Light", leading up to the release of their sophomore album, Lacerated. Lacerated came out only months after these two tracks. Eternal Harvest was released in August of 2017. Tubville stepped down from his position of official members to a live member. As far as projects go, AMOF most likely has the most side projects. Zach and Matt are in Cadaverous Contingency, Cryptic Rising, Parallax Withering and were in Willow Mount. Zach is in Numbered with the Transgressors and was in Widow and the Son and Christageddon. Hayworth is currently in the hardcore/metalcore band Strengthen What Remains. Dodson was apart of the mathcore band Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. Abated Mass of Flesh bring Christian deathcore to the highest level, alongside bands Impending Doom, Broken Flesh and A Hill to Die Upon.
