Interview: Hand of Fire
Here's a pretty important interview, at least it is to me! Christian Thrashers, Hand of Fire agreed to do an interview with The Bearded Dragon (myself) and got me super stoked! They give us some info on the new album, the band's lineup and Christianity. Thank y'all and here we go!
TBD: Who am I speaking to? (For the readers)
HOF: Jim Settle - lead vocalist:
TBD: Could you give a quick background on the band?
HOF: We live in the East Bay CA. home of Slayer, Death Angel, Testament, Metallica, Exodus, and Forbidden where Thrash metal was born. I would say we lean towards thrash but in a Hand of Fire way. I don't want to copy what the big dogs have done so we created our own thrash sound.
TBD: What is the band's current lineup?
HOF: Tiago Souza - Guitar, Bill Davies - Drums, Tom Eaton - Bass, Jim Settle - Vocals.
HOF: There is no other demos or releases. Let The Killings Begin is the title of the new album coming out on Rottweiler Records. And Let the Killings begin is the single off of the album that was released about a month ago. Nine to Ten songs will be on the album when it drops, but the label is going to do a experiment with us by releasing two digital songs a month and then the album will come out. There is also a lyric video for Killings begin coming soon.
TBD: So I know you've been in a ton of other bands like Tantrum of the Muse, Intercessor, Slag and the other project you're in, Bore. I think I heard Tiago's in Bore and that your drummer Bill Davies was in a band called Chürchfield. Has there been any other projects that you guys have been in? And where can people find that music?
HOF: I have been in many different projects but the main two are Tantrum of the Muse and you can find the music anywhere on line, and Hand of Fire at Rottweiler Records.
TBD: So I understand that you specifically do not like religion but identity as a Christian. There's another track I heard about called "Burn it Down" or something like that talking about getting rid of the organized religious side of church. With all this said I was curious if you would think Hand of Fire as a Christian band? The curiosity was due to being on a Christian label and being in Tantrum another Christian band.
HOF: The Christian name is so wrecked right now telling people I am a Christian in a band is a joke. Showing them by example that you are what you preach is a different story. The Christian name is wrecked because we Christians have stood on corners with bull horns blowing in people’s ears about Hell fire and judging them for their sins and condemning, and turning around and blowing up abortion clients. And I am so embarrassed when I hear about a killing in the name of God or Preachers stealing or having affairs and the list goes on. But the real reason is because we don't live 100 % how Jesus lived, where did the love go? Where's the grace and forgiveness? Why do we drop judgment bombs on one another? And many Christian asked themselves Why can't I lead my friends to Jesus. The Jesus that non believers see today is the Jesus Christians act and live like. We need to live 100% sold out for Christ with love, compassion, non judgmental, Forgiveness, and Grace. Live how He lived. Half of Hand of Fire is made up of new believers, because I live by example and not just by words.
TBD: How has the experience been on Rottweiler Records? It's been amazing so far.
It's like family. Shawn the big dog has an amazing heart for God and makes sure all his bands have that same heart. We talk almost everyday about life or what God is doing in each of our lives. He has sent Bibles and devotional materials to new believers that have came to know Christ through Hand of Fire. He has become like a brother. This is what a true Christian label should be like.
TBD: Is there anything else you would like to say?
HOF: I can't wait for the world to hear the music God has given us. It's been a challenge to write and record it, but I know it will help change lives and that's what I live for. Thank you for asking questions and please give us a like on our Facebook page. God bless.
Well that was Jim Settle of Hand of Fire! Spectacular band! They were the next band on the setlist at Audiofeed Festival, after Death Requisite (sup guys), but we (me and my good ole dad), had to get home. Kind of a bummer. Anyhow, follow the band on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and go follow their label while your at it. Above this you'll see the artwork for their debut and upcoming album, Let the Killings Begin! Check that out! While you are doing all this, go to Rottweiler's bandcamp site and download The Pack Vol. 1 It's got many of the bands on the label, including Hand of Fire.
