Interview: Ascending King
This week I got to talk to Ascending King! Let's here what he had to say!
TBD: Who am I speaking to? (For the readers)
AK: Aaron Kirby (Ascending King)
TBD: Could you give a quick background on the band?
AK: It's just me. I do all vocals, guitar, bass, sounds (not much of that) and drum programming. I wanted to do a solo project to experience the absolute freedom of writing and recording what I want and how I want. It's definitely a learning experience but I am having a lot of fun with it. Even now I am learning new things (better drum building for the rest of the EP). And I have met some fantastic people doing this as well.
TBD: So you have the track "Genesis of Desolation" and an upcoming Album/EP (I don't know which). When is the release date for that? And could I also get the title?
AK: It's an EP. No release date yet for the fact that I'm still writing. The working title is "Funeral Of A Species". So far I feel that's the only thing that fits but could change.
TBD: You were in the band Dryline right?
AK: Yes I was the vocalist for the whole duration of the band. 1999-2008. We actually had the same lineup that whole time too.
TBD: What happened to the band? And was Dryline a Christian band?
AK: Nothing bad at all happened, we just felt our time was up. One of us had a son (now three of the five of us have multiple), One had to move to Phoenix for a great job opportunity and I was getting married. We were on ZeroSum Recordings and had traveled the country supporting the album so we definitely left satisfied. We are all still as close as ever and still think of each other as brothers. We weren't a Christian band though we played many Christian venues and shows due to the fact that our music was not vulgar in any way. Some of the guys in the band weren't Christian but we had a style of metal for any age.
TBD: Recently you were signed by SkyBurnsBlack Records. Which I think is becoming one of those sick labels nowadays like Rottweiler. What's it been like being on SkyBurnsBlack?
AK: Man it's been great so far. Everyone has been extremely nice and complimentary. I'm very happy and proud to be a part of this world wide family! I can't wait to see what God has in store for myself and the label.
TBD: Have you been in any other bands other than Dryline?
AK: I'm originally from small town East Texas so in a town of 3,000 or so there weren't many others to play with. all of us that were in Dryline were in punk or grunge/metal bands (it was the mid-late 90's) with eachother and a couple others before we came together. So I guess the answer is kinda haha.
TBD: Is there any other Christian metal/hardcore bands in your area?
AS: Actually if there are right now I can't think of them. I mean Oh Sleeper came from the area. And of course Evelynn and Embodyment (and The Famine). Society's Finest (Zao) have ties around here as well. There are really so many great bands down here in Texas. Dallas has a thriving metal scene right now that's making waves.
TBD: What artists/bands have you been listening to lately?
AK: Christian - Flukt, Nattesorg, Elgibbor, Blast From Oblivion, Anti-World System, Megiddon.
Secular - Elephant Tree, Metallica (Pre-Black Album), Lament Cityscape, Encoffination, Misfits, Fear Of Ghost.
TBD: Is there anything else you would like to say?
AK: I just recently got a pickup endorsement with Guitarheads pickups. They have really awesome products. Check them out at guitarheadspickups.com. They will have a updated site very soon. Thanks to my family and fans for the support so far, SkyBurnsBlack for picking me up, and you for talking to me. And most of all God through Jesus for giving me the reason to do what am doing. Thanks so much for the time. Check out my facebook and instagram. All under Ascending King. Check out SkyBurnsBlack Records on Bandcamp to see me and many other great acts from around the world. God Bless!
