Review: Living Sacrifice - Not Yielding to Ungodly
- Artist: Living Sacrifice
- Album: Not Yielding to Ungodly
- Release date: 1989
- Record label: Independent
- Track listing:
- "Haven of Blasphemy"
- "Second Death"
- "Progressive Change"
The first track of this demo of Living Sacrifice's is "Haven of Blasphemy". Musically great, production-wise, great for its time, but of course, people say it's a Christian rip-off of Slayer. With reason though. The two sound very similar. There are solos and thrash based drums all through out the song. Early on the band had many backing vocals and it sounded more hardcore than thrash. But at the same time, they weren't crossover thrash.
"Second Death" starts out with an eerie guitar tone and a goth-ish sounding drum beat. After a brief solo, the music goes to a thrash style. Vocalist/Bassist DJ Johnson has a very unique style Vocally.
"Progressive Change" has a very good progression with the music. (See what I did there?) Drummer Lance Garvin is probably my biggest influence for the drums, and this was how he started out. This is some great drumming. It's production isn't very good but the music is.
Sounds Like: Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth (minus Mustaine's vocals)
