Ten Bands That Could Have Made a Career
Today I'm making a list of bands that could have had a great career if they had kept going! Of course I have taken in that there were lineup changes, personal issues and the such, I'm just talking about how the music was. Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or anything so, if you don't like it, comment on it. Anyways lets get this going!
10. Warlord (1997-1999)
Warlord was a Christian Doom Metal band, that started in 1997 that was signed to Solid State. They recorded a self titled EP in 1997, an album, Rock the Foe Hammer, in 1999, and then disbanded.
Many people have said Warlord should have stayed around. One source was the As The Story Grows Podcast where they interviewed Drummer Timothy Henderson. Podcast host Trav Turner (ex-Aletheian, Solamors, UnTeachers) said "it seems like today (2015-2016) everyone's listening to bands that sound like Warlord, and I wonder if I'm out of step to ask if Warlord was a little before its time?" In recent days, (2015-2016) there has been information of a Compilation for Henderson's health issues (Fibromyalgia) where Warlord recorded a new song for the comp and an unreleased song from the Rock the Foe Hammer sessions. The comp also features Living Sacrifice, Maranatha, Deathbed Atheist and Eso-Charis.
9. Eso-Charis (1995-2002)
Eso-Charis was a Christian Mathcore band that formed in 1995 under the name of Elliot. (named after the character in E.T.) The band changed their name to Eso-Charis in 1997. The band recorded an EP in 1997, called The Plateau Green, a self titled album in 1998, and an EP called Setting Roots For Winter in 2000. The band disbanded in 2002. They were also on Solid State. Man, I should get Solid State to sponsor this segment. What'd do you say Brandon?
Though they broke up, many members have joined bands such as Living Sacrifice, Unwed Sailor, Norma Jean, The Handshake Murders and Fear is the Driving Force.
8. Indwelling (2000-2004)
Indwelling was a Christian Death Metal band that started in 2000 as a project after the members previous band, Overcome, broke up. Indwelling was very short lived with a demo in 2001, and a full-length in 2003, titled And My Eye Shall Weep, released via Facedown Records. The band, as described by Vocalist Jarrod Norris, "fisselled out".
Though Indwelling broke up, members Jason Stinson and Thomas Washington reunited Overcome in 2010 and released another full-length album in 2011, and an EP in 2013. Overcome has also been inactive since 2013.
7. Bloodshed (1992-1997)
Bloodshed was a Christian Emocore band that started in 1992. The band recorded a Demo in 1993, and two EPs, Bloodshed (1995) and The Soft Spoken Words of Fallbrook (1996). The band changed their name to Slingshot David and broke up 6 months after in 1997. They were also on Solid State Records. (Solid State seems to have a lot of bands that fell by the wayside)
Bloodshed members left and have since joined bands such as Innermeans, Project 86, and The OC Supertones. This band was highly influential and it is unfortunate that there was no full-length recorded or released.
6. Innermeans (1996-1997)
Innermeans was a Christian Metalcore band that formed in 1996. They had a self titled EP released in 1997 and then broke up. Also on Solid State.
Innermeans members have participated in Project 86, Starflyer 59, and White Lighter.
5. A Thousand Times Repent (2006-2011)
A Thousand Times Repent was a Christian Deathcore band that formed in 2006. The band released an EP called Virtue Has Few Friends on Tribunal Records in 2007. The band played some shows and then disbanded around 2011.
The members of the band have been very musically inactive, though I know the drummer, Shannon Hill, was in a band called Postulate and their Vocalist Darsen Avery was in a band I think was called Desolate.
4. From the Shallows (2004-2008)
From the Shallows is a Christian Death/Black Metal band that started in 2004. (Notice I said is; that is because they never disbanded they've just been on hiatus since 2008). The band released a well received EP called Beyond the Unknown in 2007. The band has been inactive since 2008.
FTS members have been in The Black Daliha Murder, Settle the Sun and Imperial.
3. Besieged (2004-2010)
Besieged is a Christian Melodic Metalcore band that started in 2004. (Once again, they just went on hiatus in 2010). The band released two EPs, The First War (2004) and The Curse of Two Dragons (2005) and their full-length Atlantis in 2007. Atlantis was released through Blood and Ink Records. (PS: the band had Current For Today Vocalist Mattie Montgomery on Atlantis).
2. WhatDrivesTheWeak (2008-2014)
WhatDrivesTheWeak was a Christian Deathcore band that started around 2008. The band had a full-length called Iniquities that was released on 9 Lives Records. It is unclear if they released an EP or demo or anything.
Three members of WDTW started a Christian Progressive Deathcore band called Rogue Defector. They are sick!
1. Heaven's Force (1983-1985)
Heaven's Force was a Christian Speed Metal band that started in 1983. The band was thought to be the first Christian Speed Metal band ever. Though there were many others that were more popular, (Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, LightForce) Heaven's Force was the also one of the least known. The band recorded two demos Aggressive Angel (1983) and Heaven's Force (1984). Around 1985, the band broke up. In 2008, Guitarist Chris Richie, unfortunately, committed suicide. In 2009, the remaining members put both demos together and put it out as a compilation called Aggressive Angel to help support Richie's weeping widow. This band was very legit. They had a Drummer that was the Singer as well! And back in the day, they had to do these live in the studio! Man, may Heaven's Force and Richie rest in piece.
Well that's the list! You can find these band's music on Amazon and iTunes primarily and probably Bandcamp as well. Some of these bands will still have Facebook pages if you want to keep up with them. Let's hope FTS and Besieged come out with some new stuff soon. Alright that's it! If you want me to do something like this more often, please comment and tell me.
