Interview: Wickeds End
Saturday night, I got to interview the Christian Death/Doom Metal band Wickeds End. If you recall, Wickeds End was brought up in the Saul of Tarsus interview. And Saul of Tarsus was brought up in this one as well! Both these bands are awesome. And both are doing a Split 7" Vinyl that's going to be released this year! Check it out! Alright, let's get on with it!
TBD: Who am I speaking to? (For the readers)
WE: All of us are here.
TBD: Could you give a quick background on the band?
WE: California thrash band originally founded in 1992, currently based out of Lake Elsinore, CA reformed in 2015 with original guitarist Glenn Rowlands, John Dixon on vocals, Justin Sigler-Smalz on drums, and Andrew Crippen on Bass.
TBD: What is your guys full discography?
WE: Temporal Pain EP (1993), Suffer For Glory EP (1994), Heaven's Metal Hard Music Compilation Volume 1 (1994), Tooth and Nail Noize Compilation volume 1, and our current album Reformation, (2016), Ultraje Magazine Volume 3 March 2016 Compilation. Reformation was released on Skyburnsblack Records.
TBD: That's right, you guys released your debut at the first of this year! That's pretty awesome! How well has that done?
WE: It's opened a lot of doors for the band, however we are looking for broader distribution.
TBD: I see. Since the release has come out, do you guys plan to tour? Or just play locally?
WE: We just did our 15th show in southern California last night (May 6th, 2016). We plan to travel a bit further by the end of the year. We just got done doing a big fest with Bloodgood and Worldview, playing with Stephen Pearcy of Ratt next weekend (May 14-15) and are booked for IE Death Fest's Metal Invasion 3 June 18th and Light at the lighthouse festival in San Pedro September 10th (Living Sacrifice played it last year).
TBD: Sweet! Many bands nowadays are just guys that live around the country. And I know you guys get together and practice, so I was wondering if you guys all lived in close proximity.
WE: Glenn and Andrew live in Lake Elsinore, Justin goes to school in Glendale and John goes to school in Riverside, we practice or have shows every friday and saturday and sometimes play shows on sundays.
TBD: Oh sick! How would you guys describe your sound?
WE: Death thrash with some doom elements.
TBD: Are there any other Christian heavy bands around your area?
WE: Yes, we just recorded live for a split 7" vinyl with Saul of Tarsus, and also had Anschluss Amor and Consuming Fire play with us last night. There are some others that we have played with like Son of Man, In The Midst 777 and waiting for Demonic Extinction to get a drummer to play some shows with us. We also play with some Christian punk bands like CPR, Infirmities, A Broken Line, Cross-check.
TBD: Saul of Tarsus! I interviewed them about two months ago! Great dudes! Totally awesome! Have you guys been in any bands people may know?
WE: Glenn Rowlands did some solo work back in the day after Wickeds End split up after 1994.
TBD: Alright. Is there anything else you guys want to say?
WE: Download the Reformation album, check out the lyrics and pray for us.
TBD: Alright! Thanks for agreeing to do this guys!
WE: Thank you, we hope your readers enjoy this interview. One last thing, we are also working on new material for a new album we plan to have out 2017.
TBD: Sick! Can't wait! Will this come out on SkyBurnsBlack?
TBD: I see. Alright. Good night. Thanks again!
WE: Thank you!
That was Wickeds End. All of 'em. Hope the remainder of their practice went well. I guess their not unsigned or independent yet, but it seems as if they're leaving SkyBurnsBlack. I'm going to leave it at that, because I don't want to cause any problems. I hope it's a healthy departure. Anywho. Follow the band on Facebook and Instagram, and listen to and buy their stuff on Bandcamp and their official website! Oh, and prepare for the 7" this year, I believe that SkyBurnsBlack will be releasing it. Don't quote me on that.
