Re-interview: Good News We're Dead
NOTE: This is a slightly different interview, for the first go here.
This afternoon I got to interview the Christian Metalcore band, Good News We're Dead. (Great name am I right?) Lets do this!
The Bearded Dragon: Who am I speaking to? (For the readers)
Good News We're Dead: I am Eric the guitarist and clean vocalist from Good News We're Dead! (May have some other band members chime in as well)
TBD: Ok. Sweet! Could you give a quick background of the band?
GNWD:Yeah dude, we are 5 guys from the Orlando, Florida area. We are all Christian and Jesus is our everything. And we love heavy metal.
TBD: Are you guys working on new music like an EP or something?
GNWD: Yeah! We recorded our first EP, Sola Gratia and we are pretty stoked about it. We do not have a release date yet but it will be coming out soon!
TBD: That'll be cool! I can't wait to hear it! What does "Sola Gratia" mean?
GNWD: Sola Gratia is Latin for "by Grace alone" and that's a really big thing we want to emphasize. Jesus saves us by His grace and not by our works.
TBD: Is it coming out digitally or physically or both?
GNWD: It will be out digitally on spotify and iTunes etc. and physical as well.
TBD: Alright! How would you guys describe your sound?
GNWD:If Hillsong and The Devil Wears Prada had a baby... We would probably be that baby lol. We are really trying to mix the feel of contemporary worship with brutal breakdowns and fun riffs. Everyone in our band loves breakdowns, but we also love singing and dynamics. So we want to create music that can completely break down into another style and then build up back into a breakdown without sounding wierd. We have a lot of influences but nobody who does exactly what we are trying to do in the way we are trying to do it. So we are pretty excited about it.
TBD: ...that's an interesting answer. Lol! After you release your music, are you guys going to tour or just play local shows?
GNWD: We will be playing local shows at first and then hope to start touring by summer.
TBD: That sounds fun! Would there be any tours to Indiana? Just personal curiosity
GNWD: Dude, I sure hope so.
TBD: Yes! Are there any other Christian bands from your area?
GNWD: The only one I can think of is "Clear Convictions". They are pretty dope!
TBD: I love that band! What gear do you guys use?
GNWD: Well for guitars we are using two Ibanez RG 7 Strings. I use a mesa 4x12 Cab w/ V30's and a Mesa Triple rectifier. For pedals I use Strymon Big Sky, Strymon Timeline, Tubescreamer TS808DX, Decimator II, and a shure wireless system. Our lead guitarist David uses a peavey 6505+ and a 4x12 Aftershock cab. For pedals he uses a strymon big sky, decimator II, MXR dynacomp, tubescreamer TS9, and a TC flashback.
TBD: That's cool. What's the line-up at this point? And have there been any former members?
GNWD: Travis "Trat" Ratliff - Unclean Vocals & Keys
Eric "E-dub" Watson - Clean vocals & Rhythm Guitar
David "Feedback" Harper - Lead Guitar
Austin "slap-a-da-bass" Darrow - Bass
Tim "Tim-tron-3000" Watson - Drums
Believe it or not even though just starting we have had 2 former members a bassist and guitarist. They are both super awesome Jesus loving people but they just weren't able to be involved for various reasons. Confession... We don't actually (for the most part" call each other those super awesome nicknames.
TBD: Lol. What artists/bands have you been listening to?
GNWD: Tim (drums) : Mainly Northlane, but also been listening to The Word Alive, Tauk, and Animals As Leaders
Eric: I've been listening to Shane & Shane's Psalms album, Chelsea Grin, Vitalism, Mouth of the South, and Northlane and The Word Alive as well. Also... Not to proud to say it. Justin Bieber.
TBD: Hahaha! Beiber! I won't tease you about that! Just sub question, have you heard of Death Requisite? They are in the Sarasota, FL area.
GNWD: Naw, I haven't. I definitely will check them out though.
TBD: They're a great band. Anyways, is there anything else you'd like to say? (For the readers)
GNWD: There is no other way but Jesus (John 14:6). And Ephesians 2:8 says "by Grace you have been saved through faith" we are all broken people and Jesus died on the cross so that we could be justified through faith rather then works. Put your faith in him and turns from your sins. It wont be easy but you won't regret it. "But God demonstrates His love for us in this that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8. Soli Deo Gloria
Thanks for interviewing us!
TBD: Sure! Thanks for doing it! I can't wait to hear your music! Alright, see ya!
That was Eric of Good News We're Dead! As they mentioned they don't have any music (yet), but you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and I will keep you all posted on their music situations!
